Toto is the company that makes the fancy Japanese toilets known as Washlets. These toilets come with a bidet, heated seat and deodorizer, among other things.
Before forming Toto the group, its members performed session work for Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts,[4] Boz Scaggs, and Sonny and Cher. The guitarist Steve Lukather was the band's leader.
About Toto
Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio musicians with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group took their name from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
Toto's third release, Turn Back, was a failure in 1981. However they came back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hit songs, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household name throughout the globe.
After a hiatus of a couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. The album is an departure from the ballads that were featured on previous albums, and features some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
In the course of recording the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is financially in trouble. They decide to change their name and make a new album using the new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as lead singer. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band releases Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour across the globe. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. This includes a cover version of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest, as well as keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.
Music
Toto is an American rock band that had their greatest success during the eighties. The band was created by session musicians who had experience and has sold more than 40 million albums around the world.
Toto was the first album released by toto in 1978. It was a huge hit that brought the band to international fame. Since then, the group has released 14 albums which have all been huge hits.
Toto composed their first and only film score in 1984 for the film Dune. It was a huge undertaking, and the entire group had to be involved. The album that came out, Kingdom of Desire, was a record that also had a great success. After a world tour, Bobby Kimball quit the band. He was replaced by Fergie Frederiksen, formerly of Le Roux. The band continued to push forward with their fifth album, Isolation. The album featured a few songs, including "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation, Toto took a break from the spotlight and stepped back from the stage. This gave the individual members of the band the opportunity to pursue their own projects. In 1996, the band reformed to tour and record an album. It was the first time in over a decade that all of the original members were on stage.
The following year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the last time that the original members of Toto were on stage together. The band broke up again following this. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit show for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time that all of the original Toto members appeared performing together for over 31 years. The original Toto members were joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.
Tours
Toto is one of the most popular groups in rock music. They have had hits like "Rosanna," Hold The Line," and "Africa," which has been certified platinum 8X. With a range of influences, ranging from progressive rock to world rhythms, soul and jazz, the group continues to delight fans with their energetic arena rock.
Despite their popularity, the band faced several difficulties in their later years. In 2002 the keyboardist David Paich and drummer Greg Phillinganes were forced to take a medical leave of absence. Drummer Shem von Schroeck was brought in, but the band was not the same without Paich and Phillinganes. In 2008, Toto decided to take a break from touring after changing the lineup of their band and a disappointing series of releases. Toto returned to touring in 2012 following the release of their album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album was a return to form for the band, and the tour accompanied it with sold-out shows in North America and Europe. The reunion of Toto gained momentum with the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
Toto's music is as relevant today as it was in the 1970s and 1980s, gaining new fans with each generation. Their success has made them a permanent part of pop culture, and their live performances are always full of energy and excitement.
